Individual Therapy
Individual Therapy
Individual therapy is a safe, supportive environment where a person works one-on-one with a therapist for a variety of behavioral health conditions and concerns. Length of time will vary based on individual needs. Benefits of individual therapy can include improved mental health, reduced stress, improved relationships, increased self-awareness, improved problem-solving skills, and personal growth.
How individual therapy works
Individual therapy is incorporated in person and virtually for adolescents and adults across many of our programs and services, including residential treatment, outpatient treatment, and intensive outpatient programs (IOP).
Rosecrance uses evidence-based therapeutic methods as part of the treatment process for mental health and substance use disorders that include:
- Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) is designed to address symptoms of anxiety and depression by recognizing emotions and triggers and helping people develop coping skills to better manage mood and anxiety.
- Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) helps people manage intense emotions related to close relationships.
- Motivational interviewing applies a collaborative, person-centered approach to strengthen motivation to change and improve using feedback and coaching.
- Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) helps reprocess difficult and traumatic events stemming from challenges such as addiction, childhood abuse, neglect, PTSD, anxiety, depression, and pain management.
Find Balance Through Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
CBT helps you notice and change unhelpful thought patterns that may cause anxiety or sadness. You’ll learn practical skills to manage emotions, reduce stress, and feel more in control of your mood.
CBT might be right for you if you struggle with negative thinking, anxiety, or depression and want to build concrete tools to create more balance and confidence in your daily life.
Learn to Manage Emotions with Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
DBT teaches healthy ways to cope with intense emotions and strengthen your relationships. It’s a supportive, skill-based approach that helps you stay grounded, even when life feels overwhelming.
DBT might be right for you if you experience frequent mood swings, have difficulty managing emotions, or want to develop healthier ways to cope and connect with others.
Discover Motivation and Confidence to Change
Motivational interviewing is a collaborative approach that helps you explore your goals and build confidence in your ability to change. You’ll work with your therapist to uncover what truly motivates you — and take meaningful steps forward.
Motivational interviewing might be right for you if you feel uncertain about making a change, have mixed feelings about treatment, or want to strengthen your motivation and self-belief.
Heal from Trauma with EMDR Therapy
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) can help you process painful memories and experiences in a safe, guided way. This therapy supports healing from trauma, anxiety, and emotional distress, helping you move toward a greater sense of peace and well-being.
EMDR might be right for you if you’ve experienced trauma, have distressing memories that still affect your life, or want to reduce the emotional impact of past experiences.
Reclaim Your Story with Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT)
Cognitive Processing Therapy is a specialized form of cognitive therapy designed to help people recover from trauma. CPT helps you identify and challenge unhelpful beliefs that may have developed after a traumatic event — beliefs that can keep you stuck in guilt, shame, or fear. By learning new ways to think about what happened, you can begin to reduce the power of painful memories, see your experience with greater clarity, and move forward with renewed confidence and self-compassion.
CPT might be right for you if you’ve experienced trauma and find yourself reliving painful memories, avoiding reminders, or feeling weighed down by guilt or self-blame.
Therapists at Rosecrance often specialize in more than one of these evidence-based approaches and can help you discover which therapy, or combination of therapies, is right for you.
