Nutrition Counseling
Nutrition counseling provides a collaborative, supportive, and non-judgmental space where individuals can work one-on-one with a registered dietitian. It is an opportunity to explore nutrition, health, and your relationship with food and your body.
How nutrition counseling works
Nutrition can affect many areas of our lives, from physical health and energy to mood and our relationship with food. Nutrition counseling can help you better understand your unique needs without judgment. At Rosecrance, our registered dietitians meet you where you are and work with you to develop practical, personalized strategies that fit your life.
What is a registered dietitian?
A registered dietitian is a food and nutrition professional with specialized education and training. Registered dietitians complete an accredited education program, supervised practice requirements and a national registration examination. They also complete ongoing continuing education to maintain their credentials and meet licensure requirements.
The terms dietitian, nutritionist and nutrition coach are sometimes used interchangeably, but they do not necessarily represent the same level of education or training. “Registered dietitian” and “registered dietitian nutritionist” are protected professional credentials with specific education, training and credentialing requirements.
Our nutrition philosophy
At Rosecrance, our dietitians take a weight-inclusive, anti-diet approach to nutrition counseling. We recognize that nutrition is about more than what you eat. Our dietitians take a holistic, person-centered approach that considers your individual needs, experiences, goals and relationship with food and your body.
We believe all foods can have a place in a balanced approach to eating and that healthy eating does not have to be rigid or restrictive. Through a collaborative and non-judgmental approach, our dietitians help you build greater confidence and trust in your relationship with food and nutrition.
How can a dietitian can help
Nutrition counseling can support you in a variety of ways, including:
- Learning about foods and nutrients that can support your individual needs
- Understanding how different foods and nutrients affect the body
- Developing personalized nutrition goals and strategies
- Better understanding your body’s needs and hunger and fullness cues
- Navigating grocery shopping, restaurants and everyday food choices
- Building a more positive and confident relationship with food, nutrition and your body
Your dietitian will work with you to determine what support is most appropriate for your individual needs and goals.
What can I expect during my first session?
Your first session is an opportunity for your dietitian to get to know you. You can expect to discuss your nutrition goals, health history, current eating patterns and behaviors, and any challenges or concerns you have experienced.
Together, you and your dietitian will identify areas to focus on and develop a personalized plan that supports your goals and nutrition needs. Our approach is collaborative, so your care will be tailored to you rather than based on a one-size-fits-all approach.
