Congressman LaHood tours Rosecrance campus, discusses timely treatment for veterans

LaHood observed the behavioral health services at Rosecrance, connected with leaders and advocates, and learned about their positive impact on veterans’ lives.

On July 10, Congressman Darin LaHood made his second visit to a Rosecrance residential treatment campus located in northern Illinois, this time at the Rosecrance Harrison Campus in Rockford.

He took the opportunity to observe the behavioral health services offered by Rosecrance, connect with behavioral health leaders and advocates, and understand the efforts and positive impact Rosecrance has on improving the lives of veterans who are struggling.

During LaHood’s visit, Rosecrance leaders and advocates emphasized that any delays in treatment could worsen trauma-related conditions among those who have served.

“When veterans seek support, they should receive it immediately, without delay,” said Col. David Draeger, a veteran advocate and a Veterans Peer Support Specialist for the Rosecrance Resilience Program.

Veterans encounter unique challenges that differ from those faced by civilians, including combat trauma, stress related to reintegration, family separation, and injuries linked to military service. Although federal legislation has been enacted to ensure timely access to behavioral health support, many veterans still struggle to obtain timely, culturally competent care.

Despite these obstacles, Rosecrance is dedicated to providing veterans with quick access to the support they need.

“When it comes to veterans, we owe it to them to acknowledge the sacrifices they have made and the burdens they carry by giving them the support they need to navigate the complexities of life after military service. By doing so, we can help them rebuild their lives with the dignity and respect they deserve,” said Craig Stallings, Regional Vice President of Operations for Rosecrance Behavioral Health.
