Flynn Johnson , M.S., LMFT

Therapist

Flynn Johnson, M.S., LMFT, is a licensed marriage and family therapist at Rosecrance Therapies Northbrook. She works with individuals ages 12 and older, couples and families, including families with children and adolescents. Her areas of expertise include relational concerns, substance use, substance-induced psychosis, adverse childhood experiences, mood and anxiety disorders, personality disorders, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder and disruptive, impulse-control and conduct disorders. Johnson uses an integrative, systemic approach to care, drawing from solution-focused therapy, Bowenian transgenerational therapy, structural family therapy, Internal Family Systems, cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy and medical family therapy. She especially enjoys helping clients and families navigate substance use across generations, adolescent substance use, parent-child attachment, academic challenges and the transition from inpatient or residential care to outpatient treatment. Johnson prioritizes building trusting relationships with clients during the first few sessions and getting to know each person beyond the concern that brought them to therapy. She balances warmth and humor with direct feedback and uses appropriate self-disclosure to help demystify the therapist’s role and create a safe, supportive environment. Johnson has presented original research at regional and national conferences on family support as a protective factor against suicidal thoughts and behaviors among LGBTQIA+ youth. She earned a Master of Science in marriage and family therapy from Northwestern University in 2024 and a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from Grinnell College in 2021. She joined Rosecrance in 2026.
