Take the first step towards success
Quitting smoking or using tobacco is one of the most powerful steps a person can take to improve their health and overall quality of life, but it’s also one of the hardest. At Rosecrance Therapies | Chicago-River North, our new comprehensive tobacco cessation program offers a full-spectrum approach that treats nicotine dependence as both a biological and behavioral condition, providing clients with the tools, support, and innovative therapies they need to succeed.
A holistic, science-backed model for recovery
Unlike traditional quit-smoking programs that rely on a single intervention, this new model combines three proven methods into one cohesive, 12-week plan:
- Medication management to reduce cravings and withdrawal symptoms
- Individual therapy to build skills, coping strategies, and long-term motivation
- Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) to help retrain the brain’s response to nicotine
Each component reinforces the others, addressing both the neurobiological and psychological aspects of addiction and helping clients make lasting change.
Why this approach works
Research shows that integrating behavioral therapy, adaptive medication protocols, and brain-based treatments like TMS can dramatically improve quit rates, particularly for individuals who have tried to quit multiple times before.
TMS helps reduce cravings and enhance self-control, while therapy builds new habits and thought patterns that support long-term abstinence. Medication management helps regulate neurochemistry and reduces withdrawal symptoms, giving clients a stronger foundation for recovery.
At Rosecrance, our proven success using TMS reflects years of experience helping clients achieve meaningful, lasting recovery through innovative, evidence-based care.
How the program works
The program begins with a comprehensive intake and personalized plan, followed by 12 weeks of coordinated care.
- Week 0: Clients establish their quit date and begin TMS and therapy sessions. Medication management begins four weeks before the target quit date to help reduce nicotine dependence and prepare the brain for change.
- Weeks 1–8: Weekly therapy sessions incorporate cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and mindfulness-based relapse prevention (MBRP) to help identify triggers, manage cravings, and build resilience. TMS sessions occur daily for the first three weeks, then taper to weekly for three more weeks.
- Weeks 4 and 8: Follow-up medication management visits help fine-tune support as clients sustain progress and reduce nicotine use.
- Weeks 8-12: Final therapy integration, maintenance, and medication follow-up.
A supportive, evidence-based path to change
Throughout the program, clients learn practical mindfulness and cognitive strategies to cope with stress, identify triggers, and navigate setbacks. Each session focuses on self-awareness, relapse prevention, and celebrating progress—empowering individuals to reclaim control of their health.
