Rosecrance to host initiative for raising Resilient and Drug-Free Kids in 2019

Rosecrance Health Network to host its substance abuse prevention initiative: It’s more than ‘just say no’: Raising Resilient and Drug-Free Kids on Wednesday, May 1, 2019 at Heartland in Rockford, IL, from 6:30 – 8:00 pm.

Aimed at the parents of children in 3rd through 8th grades, the presentation provides helpful and practical tips to support children who will be able to make the right decisions when faced with peer pressure and stressors.

“We know that today’s kids are being exposed to marijuana and alcohol very early in their lives; in some cases by 5th grade,” said Rosecrance Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Thomas Wright. “Discussions about the dangers and impact on youth brain development are critical. We are pleased to provide this resource for parents to make these conversations more comfortable.”

The program is led by experienced counselors. Attendees will hear what parents can do to encourage resilience and responsibility, learn about risk factors, and how to help children develop good coping and decision-making skills.

The presentation is currently being offered in areas near Rosecrance locations, including Chicagoland, and throughout Illinois, as well as Iowa and southern Wisconsin.
