Alumni Workshop "It's a Family Affair" a Success

The Alumni workshop “It’s a Family Affair” was held at the Rosecrance Griffin Williamson campus May 31, 2014. The Alumni Advisory Committee put the event together from the ground up and did a great job. The workshop was presented to adult and adolescent alumni and their family members. Everyone had a great time and came away with healing tools for healthy family living in recovery. The next Alumni Workshop is scheduled for September 6th, 2014 and an Alumni Picnic is planned for August 16, 2014.

Summer Fun at the Alumni Picnic!
Rosecrance Alumni Workshop Series
The Rosecrance Alumni are hosting a picnic on August 16, 2014 in Rockford, IL. Plan to spend the day with alumni and their families enjoying food, fellowship and fun. There will be games for the kids and adults along with a DJ to play your favorite songs. Midlake or Bust!

This past Memorial Day weekend I was privileged to attend the Midlake Conference at Devil’s Head Resort in Wisconsin. It is an annual conference where Alateens and sponsors come together from WI, MN and IL. We brought 19 teens and 6 sponsors from our Westmont, IL group. It took a lot of fundraising and planning to make it all possible and it was so worth it. Seeing the teens’ faces and hearing their wisdom just about knocked me over. Imagine being a teen and feeling like no one understands what you are going through and then imagine seeing that teen surrounded with other teens that understand

It’s just like being with my Alanon friends, which only took me 47 years to get to there. They are working their program and changing their lives as a teen. How cool is that?

At the closing meeting, teens line up and speak into the microphone about what the weekend meant to them. One young man sang a Disney song acapella and said, “Don’t judge me but the words say it all.” The miracle was that no one was judging him nor was there a dry eye in the room. All of the 19 year olds were asked to stand up for applause. This would be their final Midlake and many will return as sponsors.

The requirement to become a sponsor is: Be in Alanon for a minimum of two years. Attend at least one Alanon meeting per week. Have an Alanon sponsor. Complete the yearly Alateen Sponsor certification workshop, including a background check. Becoming an Alateen sponsor has changed my life. The teens never cease to amaze me! Service allows me to grow. “It’s Not Odd, its God” that I became an Alateen sponsor.

David Lee, Founder of Intervention Services and Technologies, Inc., will speak at the Rosecrance Griffin Williamson Campus September 6, 2014. David will be providing insight to relapse prevention for alumni and their families.  

Rosecrance Naperville Alumni Cafe meets every first Thursday of the month from 7 pm to 8 pm at the Community Christian Church, 1635 Emerson Lane, Naperville, IL 60540. We encourage you to come early to network with other alumni.

 

 

   Rosecrance Rockford Alumni Cafe meets every 3rd Monday of the month at the Harrison Campus, 3815 Harrison Ave, Rockford, IL. Alumni meet from 6 to 7 pm, but you are encouraged to come early to network.
