Alumni Campfire

Ahlam M. (Marlowe) said the alumni family campfire event was her first time attending a campfire and enjoying a S'more.

Recovery Fun in the Fall with Family & Friends

The weather was cold, but the sky was clear and a quarter moon glowed on Rosecrance alumni, family and friends the night of the alumni fall campfire. The night started with yummy snacks of apples, caramel, apple cider donuts, hot cider, hot chocolate and coffee. Armed with blankets, hats, gloves, scarves and comfy chairs, the group headed to the campfire. Once settled around the fire, the group enjoyed a gratitude meeting sharing their many gifts in recovery. Several attendees toasted marshmallows to make S'mores with chocolate and graham crackers.

Itasca Runners Club Donates to Rosecrance Alumni Program

The Itasca Runners Club board members voted to include the Rosecrance Alumni Program as a recipient from their 6th Annual Oktoberfast 5K run held October 4, 2014 in Itasca. More than 550 runners crossed the finish line. Proceeds from the race have always gone to local charities such as The Itasca Food Pantry and Walk in Ministry. This year, the Itasca Runners Club supported the Rosecrance Alumni Program with a donation.

Brenda P., an Itasca board member and RGW parent, supported this donation due to her and her son's, Joe F's, (RGW) involvement at Rosecrance. The Alumni Program is working at expanding alumni support in the Chicagoland area including Alumni Cafe Support Groups in Naperville, Lincoln Park and Crystal Lake. The alumni program is "Alumni Driven to meet Alumni Needs" and this donation will be used to provide our alumni and their families with recovery-centered activities, events and workshops.

Following Your Passion in Recovery

Aidan M., Rosecrance Alumnus, has trudged a long road repairing his past over the last year and a half since coming to Rosecrance.

Today Aidan is living in a recovery home, working as a salesman by day, attending meetings and seeking DJ gigs at night.

Aidan's love for music began when he was 15. He started producing his own music using an Akai keyboard, an MPC Pad, and computer software. As his talent increased, he started producing for small-time Seattle-based hip hop artists at school. Aidan then met other musicians and DJ's at school dances and Seattle clubs.

As with any business, there are barriers. “I have realized a lot of these brick walls or limits are simply creations of my own. My recovery has helped me a lot in overcoming this black-and-white thinking, opening the door to so many more opportunities.”

Aidan's ideal DJ career has changed over time from wanting to be an electronic music rock star to being a humble radio DJ. "Right now it's hard for me to decide what I want to do. I believe if I keep doing what I’m supposed to do, work hard, stick with the program, and stay true to myself, those things will come to me in time."
Aidan’s original work will be featured on the Rosecrance Alumni Web Page at Rosecrance.org.

Back by popular demand... David Lee

Rosecrance will host "Emotional Relapse & Recovery" in the Chicago area for alumni and their families on January 17, 2015. The workshop will be held at the Community Christian Church (Yellow Box Church), 1635 Emerson Lane, Naperville, IL 60540.

David Lee is the founder of Intervention Services and Technologies, Inc., the largest intervention service provider in North America. Lee has more than 10 years of experience in interventions, addiction counseling, family systems and recovery. His professional background includes development of the S.M.A.R.T. model of interventions, CEO of Sober Solutions, Inc., and Program Developer and Director of the A Forever Recovery program in Battle Creek, Michigan.

"I can't stress this enough: David's message is one that every family member or loved one NEEDS to hear. Families will see addiction in a new way - a way they can clearly relate to. Those in recovery will gain a better understanding of why and how we got where we are.

David's message will open your eyes, change your perspective, and help you live productively and successfully. It has been a life-changing event for myself and my family." - Kevin D. (RHC Alumnus)
