Rosecrance Chief Medical Officer joins discussion on opioid crisis with U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin

U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin, D-IL, learned about the impact of the opioid crisis in Winnebago County during a visit Wednesday, March 28, at MercyHealth Hospital-Rockton Avenue Campus with local doctors and substance abuse treatment providers.

Rosecrance’s Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Thomas Wright, joined a roundtable discussion to provide input on the treatment of individuals addicted to opioids. He emphasized that Rosecrance offers detox services for both adults and adolescents. Rosecrance is the only DASA-certified detox center for adolescents in the state of Illinois.

Senator Durbin organized the roundtable in light of the federal spending bill passed last week that includes $3.3 billion dollars in new funding to prevent opioid addiction, expand naloxone access and medication-based treatment, and improve drug monitoring programs and research for non-addictive pain treatment.
