Rosecrance hosted its third Recovery 5K Walk/Run

Nearly 500 people from all walks of life helped Rosecrance clients step toward a brighter future during the third annual Rosecrance Recovery 5K Walk/Run. The theme of the 5K is ‘Every Step Counts’ and the event proved just that, raising nearly $40,000 to support Rosecrance programs and families seeking treatment for substance use and mental health disorders.

“The theme ‘Every Step Counts’ is very intentional,” Rosecrance Vice President of Communication and Development, Anne Boccignone, said at the event. “At Rosecrance, we witness the miracle of recovery every day and we know what’s important isn’t how fast or slow you take it, but rather the steps you take to get there!”

Held at the Rosecrance Berry Campus on August 5, the day commenced with an introduction from Boccignone, the national anthem sung by Nicole Blumenstein, and yoga and stretches led by Rosecrance Therapeutic Recreation Specialist Matt Larson. More than 80 volunteers, including girls from the Rosecrance Marlowe House, helped make the day a success.

Several special guests and mascots cheered on runners and posed for photos while Eric Wilson from WTVO/WQRF emceed the event. Runners also enjoyed passing through the Super Suds bubble machine before and after the 5K course.

Awards were given to the fastest male and female in each age category. In a particularly special victory, Rosecrance President/CEO Phil Eaton won his age category.

“Recovery is about community, which is why events like this are so exciting and rewarding for Rosecrance,” says Rosecrance Director of Development, Emily Lipinsky. “I feel so grateful that people are moved to support our mission of providing help, hope and the best opportunity for lasting recovery.”

She adds, “In a lot of ways the 5K race mirrors the process of recovery, too— both are made possible only if you are willing to put in the work.”

Rosecrance looks forward to continuing its annual Recovery 5K Walk/Run and invites community members to get involved next year.
