Rosecrance Family Support Services help members of the family learn about the disease of addiction and the process of recovery in a holistic manner.  Everyone has been affected and everyone can benefit by participating in the various services offered. Our family programs are designed to provide you with answers to your questions-not only how to cope with your loved one's addiction, but also ways to cope with how the experience has affected you.

Family Support Group
These on-going support groups provide a wealth of insight into the fact that families are not alone in their desire to recover from the disease of addiction. This insight is gained by being with families who are going through similar experiences. Families come together to learn from each other. Family support groups are held one hour before visiting times.

Family Visits
Regular visiting hours are offered throughout the week. Visitation is schedule by treatment group.

Individual Family Sessions
Patients and family members come together weekly with their addictions counselor to set goals and to address issues pertaining to this chronic disease. Family sessions are scheduled on an individual basis.

Family Relapse Prevention Plan
This plan is developed and completed during family sessions—from the beginning of treatment through discharge. The prevention plan is a more inclusive way of helping families prepare to support and maintain not only the addict’s recovery, but family recovery, too.

Family Education Weekend
This program provides comprehensive education regarding the disease of addiction, an overview of treatment and how to begin the recovery process. Some of the goals of the weekend are:

  • To validate feelings experienced by the family due to the addiction of a loved one
  • To educate the family about addiction as a brain disease
  • To educate the family about addiction as a family disease
  • To help the family understand the progression of the disease
  • To introduce the family to the Twelve Steps of Recovery
  • To educate the family about the role of enabling in the disease progression
  • To educate the family regarding positive communication and promote the detachment process
  • To help the family identify healthy recovery and healthy adolescent behaviors
  • To educate the family about the relapse process
  • To send a message of hope through recovery

Schedule:
Fridays, 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Saturdays, 8:30 am - 5:00 pm
Sundays, 8:30 am to noon

Therapeutic Leave of Absence
Upon family members’ successful completion of the Family Education Weekend and the patient’s achievement to sponsor level in their treatment group, patients and their families may participate in a therapeutic leave of absence. This is a three to six hour block of time together off campus.

Next Step Program
Next Step Program is held every other week and is available to parents who have completed the Family Education Program. It is designed to provide further instruction for parents to help direct them during the first few months of their child’s and family’s recovery after discharge from treatment.

Discharge Planning
This service is offered to our patients and families to help link them to social, educational and recovery services after discharge.

Recovery Lifeline Program
Available to Rosecrance alumni and family members, this telephonic continuing care service provides support when needed. The Recovery Lifeline counselor maintains purposeful contact with patients positively discharged for the first six months after treatment. The Lifeline phone number is available for alumni and parents to call 24/7.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Is participation in family support services mandatory?
A: Participation is strongly recommended. Studies have shown that the more the family is involved in the treatment process, the more positive the outcome for the adolescent and family.

Q: Is there a fee for any family services?
A: No, there is no additional cost for any of the services. We do, however, ask for a nominal donation to cover the cost of food during family education weekend.

Q: Who should attend/participate in family services?
A: Family support services are provided for all family members including aunts, uncles and grandparents if they are a strong support to the patient. We discourage participation of small children during the family education weekend. Participation is limited to individuals on the approved visitors’ log.

Q: How do I prevent my loved one from relapsing?
A: Rosecrance will guide you through the process of understanding your role in supporting your loved one’s recovery though the services we provide.
