Stars of Light Theatre Troupe

The Stars of Light is a traveling theatre troupe composed of mental health clients who educate the public about mental illness and reduce the stigma that surrounds it while sharing their artistic talents and personal stories.
Accomplishments and products include:
- Shows airing on public radio that feature various aspects of mental illness and recovery.
- Art galleries that display the works of people with mental illness and staff who work in mental health.
- Public speaking by individuals with mental illness who share their personal stories of recovery.
- Consultation with other mental health centers and community groups regarding starting theatre troupes and other consumer-run businesses.
- A full length play regarding mental illness and recovery.
- Expressive Arts groups for adults recovering from mental illness.
- CDs and DVDs about topics including recovery, employment, mental illness and training for law enforcement.
The Stars of Light Theatre troupe travels to schools, churches, clubs and organizations and stages presentations about mental illness, stigma and recovery. The troupe has been performing since 1995 and is composed of persons with mental illness, family members, staff and community volunteers. Shows can be tailored to particular audiences. Most shows run for 30 minutes and are followed by a “talk back” where the troupe can answer questions and share personal stories.
