Michael Oldenburg tried to capture why saying “thank you for your service” can be confusing to veterans on Veterans Day.

“All’s we did was our job,” said Oldenburg, a Rosecrance transition specialist. He said it’s the thought behind that sentiment that counts.

Oldenburg shared that and details about his own time in the U.S. Army as part of the fifth annual Veterans Day Ceremony at the Rosecrance Harrison Campus. Clients and staff filled the community room for the presentation, which was followed by refreshments.

Diana Rudeen, an outpatient addiction counselor, helped organize the ceremony. She also led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance and read aloud a description of the flag-folding procedure and what each of the 13 folds represents. Harrison Administrator Craig Stallings and Chaplain Meridith Graham also participated in the ceremony. Also represented were members of VFW Post 342.

A highlight of the event was a musical video presentation that included names and photos of clients and staff who are veterans, as well as employees’ family members who are veterans.
